Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Outreach Prevention Coordinator, the Land-Based Worker will coordinate and support all aspects of cultural knowledge transfer and planning within the Outreach Prevention Program. The Land Based Worker provides traditional teachings, traditional activities/ceremonies in a safe and acceptable environment and coordinates access to Elders and Traditional people to meet the needs of the youth in Constance Lake. JMHC will base its recruitment of staff for all its operations on the person's qualifications, skills and abilities including cultural competency and willingness to become culturally competent.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Grade 12 OSSD; some high school preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values
• Strong communication skills with proficiency in developing written reports, documents, and the development and delivery of oral presentations
• Pleasure Craft Boaters License or willing to obtain it
• Firearms Certification will be an asset and or willing to obtain it
• Must pass a Criminal record Check
• Must have chainsaw certificate or willing to obtain it
• Must have valid G License and have own transportation
• Must have First Aid/CPR Training or willing to obtain it
• Cree and Ojibway Language is an asset
• Drug test will be required for the successful candidate
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead experimental, land-based activities
• Develop curriculum and or programming that is based on the cultural land-based program, and connections to the land
• Incorporate land-based practices, protocols and the relationship to First Nation peoples’ identities and ways of life that will promote identity and culture
• Travel with youth to land-based programming sites
• Other duties related to the Outreach Prevention Program as set by the Outreach Prevention Coordinator
• Take training related to position, i.e. First Aid/CPR
• Maintaining Land-Based Equipment and keep inventory
• Involve elders for guidance and direction
• Perform other duties when required and requested
