Community Wellness Counsellor

Overview :
Under the supervision of the Wellness Manager, the Community Wellness - Counsellor is to implement and administer a alcohol and drug abuse program, prevention, intervention and after care services that will enhance the health and well-being of First Nation members residing in the community of Constance Lake. They will also provide meaningful resources to community members affected by mental health.
Preferred qualifications :
- Social Worker diploma and addiction counseling certificate
- Minimum 2 years' experience delivering programming, counseling, and case management services to mental health and addiction clients
- Working knowledge of First Nation culture, traditions and values and their influence and impact on wellness
- Cree and Ojiibway an asset
- Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with dealing clients in a clinical setting
- Excellent computer skills
- Must have good organizational skills
- Ability to operate office equipment
- Must pass drug and alcohol test
- Must pass criminal background check
Duties and responsibilities :
- Screen and assess clients' needs for services
- Plan and implement regular educational programs to the elementary and secondary levels on prevention of drug use/misuse.
- Plan and implement community/individual sessions regarding drug, alcohol & mental health programs
- Develop and provide substance abuse information services (literature, workshops etc. )
- Provide mental health support services to members of Constance Lake by working with individuals to create holistic service plan, focusing on strength and capacity.
- Provide client referrals to appropriate organizations/agencies available to members of Constance Lake First Nation as required.
- Linking clients with health and psychiatric services
- Work with outside agencies
- Conduct AA and NA meetings
- Network with other mental health and addictions workers
