Position Summary :
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, Constance Lake First Nation seeks a Lead Band Representative to manage and oversee a team of Child Welfare Advocates. In this role, you will be responsible for advocating on behalf of and representing Constance Lake First Nation members, both registered and affiliated, who are involved with any Child Welfare Agencies across Canada.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Proven experience working with First Nation communities and a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges associated therein.
- In-depth knowledge of Customary Care Agreements and their implementation.
- Diploma in Social Work or a related field.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and its application.
- Knowledge of the history of Child Welfare as it pertains to Aboriginal communities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in creating detailed plans, timelines, and managing competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting court documentation.
- Ability to effectively coordinate time management while working with multiple families.
- Competence in providing reports and documentation to Chief and Council as needed.
- Valid Ontario G-class driver's license.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment Drug and/or Alcohol test.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive support services to Constance Lake First Nation members involved or at risk of involvement with Child and Family Services.
- Advocate for the child welfare needs of Constance Lake First Nation members within the community and beyond.
- Build and maintain active, collaborative relationships with all Child and Family Services agencies.
- Ensure the implementation of Customary Care practices for all Band members as a priority before pursuing court intervention.
- Actively participate in the creation and review of Service Plans, Plans of Care, and other service development initiatives for Band members.
- Consult with agencies on Customary Care Agreements (CCAs) and obtain necessary approvals from community leadership.
- Provide monthly in-camera reports to Chief and Council, or as requested.
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality when working with Band members..
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required to support the goals of the position.
