This competition may be used to identify qualified candidates to fill permanent and temporary Field Officer opportunities across Ontario, within the next fourteen (14) months

In support of our mission to ensure Ontarians are safe, practiced and prepared before, during and after emergencies,  Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) leads the Province's emergency planning and preparedness functions, to safeguard continuity of government and essential services. Based on a vision of ‘A safe, practiced and prepared Ontario', EMO also works collaboratively with its stakeholders and partners to promote excellence in emergency management services across Ontario through the delivery and maintenance of high-quality programs and services that are supported through the creation of legislation, guidelines, policies, plans, and strategies.

About the job

You will:

• Lead and support emergency management programs across the province
• Work with communities to strengthen their emergency planning and response, including prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery
• Design, deliver, and evaluate emergency exercises for a range of partners
• Help communities with emergency planning and provide advice before and during emergencies
• Be part of the provincial emergency response team, ready to deploy on short notice for extended periods

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario, in order to access emergency, exercise and training sites that may not be accessible by public transportation
• You are able and willing to work irregular and extended hours particularly during emergencies and be on-call on a regular basis
• You are willing and able to travel occasionally to other provinces/territories and USA

Emergency Management Knowledge

You have:

• Knowledge of emergency management principles and tools to support communities and stakeholders.
• The ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation across all levels of government.
• Familiarity with emergency programs and resources.
• An understanding of Emergency Management's goals, plans, and standards.

Communication, Interpersonal and Leadership Skills

You have:

• Political awareness to work with diverse stakeholders and lead discussions.
• Strong communication skills to create briefings, media content, and public education materials.
• Experience using adult learning principles to design and deliver training.
• Confident presentation skills for delivering effective programs.
• Tact and cultural sensitivity to engage respectfully with people from all backgrounds.

Analytical Skills

You can:

• Use sound judgment to assess emergencies and provide clear advice.
• Work independently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Technical Skills

You are:

• Comfortable using common software tools for documents, presentations, and online research.
• Able to operate audiovisual and communication equipment effectively.
